Frequently Asked Questions
Effective Spring 2008
Major changes have occurred in the China adoption program, such that it is difficult to provide current good news on this program. Whereas thousands and thousands of families have been able to adopt in China since 1996 especially, now the circumstances have changed completely.
Because of huge waiting lists that have grown over the past five years, waiting times for most families to adopt in China are now estimated to be at least 3, 4 or 5 years. Only Chinese American families (meaning either prospective adoptive parent was born in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan, or their parents were) have any hope of completing a China adoption in a briefer period.
The Chinese government has liberalized the one-child policy in many parts of China, and are also encouraging more domestic Chinese families to adopt, such that there are fewer children now brought to the orphanages than in prior years.
We invite Chinese families to call Dr. Woo or Adopt International to discuss the current status.
